Dmitri Bashkirov's name has been known to the musical world since 1955 when he received the Grand Prix at the Marguerite Long Competition in Paris. He was born in 1931 in Tiflis, Georgia, where he studied with Anastasia Wirsaladze before moving to Moscow to study with the famous Soviet pianist and pedagogue Alexander Goldenweiser. 

After his Paris success, he established himself as one of the most outstanding Russian pianists, performing at the most important musical centres and festivals worldwide, with leading orchestras under the baton of famous conductors such as Barbirolli, Mazur, Sawallisch, Szell, Markevich, Svetlanov, Mehta, Zecchi and Barenboim.

In addition to his career as a pianist, Dmitri Bashkirov is a Professor at the Moscow Conservatory, Titular Professor at the Escuela Superior de Musica Reina Sofia in Madrid and a Professor at the International Piano Foundation in Griante/ Cadenabbia at Lake Como in Italy. 

He also gives masterclasses in Paris, Vienna, Salzburg, Helsinki, Athens, Jerusalem, Budapest, Colmar, Lisbon, Belgrade, Turku, Los Angeles, Stockholm and at many of the important cultural centers all over the globe.

His past students include many competition prize-winners such as Boris Bloch, Arcadi Volodos, Dang Thai Son, Stanislav Ioudenich, Denis Kozhukhin and many others.

He was named Honorary People's Artist of Russia, and won the special Robert Schumann Medal in Zwickau, as well as the Honorary Medal of the Autonomous University in Madrid. He released records with Erato, Melodia, EMI, Russian CD, and Harmonia Mundi.
